September 2008

Tomorrow our project manager is saying good bye.  He’s transferring to FH Mozambique to  the Child Development Project there.  We don’t yet have a new project manager, but are praying that God will bring the right leader to our growing project.  Not only do we have the new relief work in Jiddo, but the second phase of the HIV program will be starting up in October.  Things are exciting, but there’s a lot for a new person to manage.  Please be praying for this open position.

Aside from our project manager leaving, our communication officer has been transferred to a new position in addis and our head accountant is leaving.  We will be saying goodbye to 3 staff at this good-bye party.  Lots of changes and adjustments.  Please pray for my coworkers and the project here.

I thoue ght I’d update you on my computer woes… they’re not too bad.  My broken computer is back in the US and will be shipped to compaq sometime this week.  The cool thing is Compaq is paying the shipping… so that’s one less thing I have to worry about. Talk about relief!! My old computer, which I took back from my co worker is now in perfect working order.  I had to get some new drivers installed or reinstalled, but somehow God led me to a capabable fix it shop and my “old” computer is now fully functional. More relief!  I am so thankful that things have fallen into place so smoothly.  Computer troubles here can mean a big headache, because you never know where to take the computer, you never know if they’re really competent, and you never know if your computer will be further destroyed by having a “computer guy” see it.  So I’m thankful.  Also the prospect of living and working for a few months without a fully functioning computer is quite scary, as my computer is my entertainment, source of relaxation, contact with the outside world and where I work.  All that to say I am utterly thankful and utterly relieved.

Life is difficult… especially when it comes to me and computers.  My “new” computer… the Compaq that my supporters bought for me last year has died.  Don’t know what happened to it, but I tried to start it up a few days ago and it simply wouldn’t do any more than make a little noise and flash it’s lights.  Thankfully someone from FHUS was here and was able to quickly wisk my computer back to the US.   I will hopefully get it fixed… I’ll keep you posted on that.

In the meantime, I’ve taken back my origional computer– my VAIO, which was being used by one of my coworkers in Zeway. It’s great to be able to have a computer to use, but there are some problems with it.  Somehow the sound and the modem for the internet have been disabled.  It think I’ll be pretty lucky to get these things fixed.  It’s sad because I need my computer for three things: work, movies/music, and the internet.  Now, 2 of the 3 don’t work.  I’m now in addis and will be trying to find a competent computer person to put this computer back in order.  Please pray for me as a wander around town in search of a repair guy, and that he will be wise and not further destroy the computer.
